Overland Travel is guided by the philosophy that the environment of Southwestern China is unique and should be preserved for its natural and cultural resources.  As development in China is progressing at a rapid pace, it is important to understand that the ever-expanding tourism industry does not need to exploit these resources and therefore diminish their integrity.  Instead, tourism can and should be used to enhance benefits for the people and environment by adhering to sound principles of environmental sustainability and cultural awareness on behalf of visitors and tourism suppliers. If properly executed, economic benefits similar to those being currently realized can be achieved with fewer visitors, thereby reducing the negative impacts on the environment.
