Aba County

Aba County marks the high grasslands and higher mountains of northern Sichuan.  With virtually the entire county over 2500m (8,000 feet) in elevation compact villages fill narrow valleys and Tibetan nomads roam expansive grasslands.  Its people remain deep-seated in their culture with the Islamic Hui joining Qiang and Tibetan communities.  Steep, rugged mountains give way to the powerful Min River and legendary scenery at Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Nature Reserves.  From the ancient town at Songpan to the timeless monasteries at Langmusi the county's setting on the eastern end of the Tibetan Plateau only increases its allure.
