Haba Mountain forms the north side of the Tiger Leaping Gorge, although 'side' is something of an understatement. Snowcapped year round, tiny Haba village is a picturesque dot on the landscape clinging to the slopes below the mountain. The road south from the White Water Terraces (Baishuitai) allows for an unbeatable view of the mountain and village. Overland China organizes treks to the peak, but this trek is reserved for advanced climbers only. The surrounding mountainsides form a rather utopian neighborhood of an amazing seven ethnic minorities living in harmony, including Tibetan, Yi, and Hui among others. While in Haba guests will have the opportunity to visit local homes, enjoy traditional song and dance performances, and learn about the special and rare flora and fauna within the high, secluded valley.
