| On May 12 at 2:28 PM an earthquake measuring 7.9 struck Wenchuan County only 100 kilometers from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. The combination of blocked roads and dangerous mountain terrain in Wenchuan County means that a daunting challenge of saving lives and rebuilding lays ahead for the Chinese government. More than 68,000 lives have been lost, and over 5 million have been displaced.
