Yunnan province is the gem of southwestern China. In fact, its name alone means “South of the Clouds,” referring to its ideal weather and picturesque landscape. It is a rich, verdant land redolent with fresh fruits & vegetables, myriad minority cultures and amazing sites to behold. The people of Yunnan are friendly and laid-back, and visitors are consistently welcomed with warm smiles and comfortable weather throughout the year. At the crossroads of the southern Silk Road, Yunnan is something of a melting pot of Asian culture as influences from throughout the continent are felt from the Himalayas in the north to the jungles of Xishuangbanna in the south. The provincial government’s noteworthy effort to improve Yunnan’s roads has markedly increased sustainable tourism opportunities for the many indigenous peoples.
