The Stone Forest
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, the Stone Forest is among the most unique geological landscapes in the world. The karst topography began forming 270 million years ago, and now covers over a thousand kilometers in southwestern China. Formerly a giant lake, the combination of sediment formation, river erosion and plateau elevation has left us with these stunning rock formations.
One can spend an afternoon exploring the countless trails around the forest, which are among the cleanest and best maintained of any park in China. Upon exploration, you will encounter gorgeous stone peaks, karst caves, lakes and waterfalls. It is not difficult to explore your own path and seek out solitude in the vast expanse of the park, which contains stunning natural views for as far as you can see in any direction.
